AHIP Medicare Training
AHIP Medicare training is required for those that want to offer MAPD and PDP plans with most carriers. The exception is UHC Medicare which does not currently require an AHIP designation.
There have been some notable changes to the AHIP training and certification exam for 2021
This year’s certification has changed vs previous years. All modules must be accessed in order to take the cumulative exam at the end. Those that passed the test in 2019 only need to click through modules 4 and 5. Unlike last year however, they still need to answer the sample test questions at the end of modules 1-3. This is a change from previous years when you could completely skip modules 1-3. This years sample question are very similar to those on the exam and the correct answer is show after the questions are answered. This change was made to help agents understand the areas they are weak in and need to review further. The sample questions at the end of each module are not graded.
The changes made to the 2021 version are applicable to everyone taking the certification.
Headings have been added to each section of the test to make it easier to identify the subject matter. This will make it easier to find the answers you need for each section.
The certification can be accessed through the AHIP site at a cost of $175. It can also be accessed through multiple carrier sites for a discounted cost of $125. Please keep in mind you are allowed to attempt the test 3 times. If you do not pass in 3 attempts, the course will need to be purchased again.
Note: While AHIP is required it does not replace the need to complete each carrier specific certification.
AHIP Medicare training 2021: Do all carriers require AHIP in order to offer their MA and PDP plans?
Most companies do require AHIP in order to offer their MA, MAPD and PDP products. United Healthcare is the one exception to this rule. You do still need to complete the UHC certification in order to offer their plans.
The AHIP test:
The test is an open book 50 question exam. You are allowed 2 hours to complete the test. If you do not pass the exam in 3 tries, you will need to purchase the course again for 3 additional attempts.
Important: You will not be eligible to write some plans for the 2021 sales year if you fail AHIP 3 times
There are some carriers that will not allow you to sell if you do not pass in 3 attempts. (Even if you pass the exam on attempts 4-6)
Ability to skip modules for those that completed AHIP last year
Agents who passed AHIP the previous year are allowed to skip the slides on modules 1-3. The agent will still need to take the study questions on modules 1-3 and the test will be based on all 5 modules.
Is the AHIP Medicare training 2021 exam good for the rest of this year?
Those that did not take/pass AHIP in 2020 but get certified for 2021 may sell for the remainder of 2020.
